The Transfiguration Cathedral is the main Orthodox church of Donetsk. Construction of the present building began in 1997. Its architecture combines classicism with elements of the Ukrainian tradition: five domes, three apses and a bell tower. The cathedral has three iconostases gilded with gold leaf.
In 2012 the ruling bishop blessed the painting of the cathedral. Work began in the lower church of St Sergius of Radonezh. The task was to create a contemporary painting scheme in the classical tradition of sacred mural art. We used fresco, gilding of the iconostases and easel painting.
