Dome of the Church of the Presentation, Monastery of the Presentation

The church’s history is linked to a women’s community: the widow Matrona Yegorova donated her savings and property to build it. Later a parish school for girls and a women’s hostel were opened beside it. The church reopened during the Second World War and remained open until 1960; in 1996 the community became a men’s monastery.

Our studio was entrusted with painting the dome. Before starting, we studied the compositional features of the church. We used modern silicate paints, which make the painting strong and durable, and matched them to the overall colour scheme. Our work draws on the methods of the old masters, rethought with contemporary means.
